Current State of Freight

Last updated – 6 June 2022

What is the Current State of Freight?

With ongoing global supply chain issues caused by backlogs, strong demand and a lack of adequate staff, there are two keys areas impacting freight:

  1. Long delivery delays – freight carriers have almost unilaterally extended their expected delivery dates out by anywhere from one to two months and in some cases even longer.
  2. Exponential rise in freight costs – to give you some context, what might previously have cost $80 to deliver, now costs $400 to deliver, and attracts a $200 surcharge for items over 2.4 meters in length.

How are Lyrebird Addressing These Freight Challenges?

While we have absorbed the extra expense as much as possible over the last six months, we are now forced to pass some of these costs onto our valued customers until the situation eases.

We are working with our freight carrier partners to find a solution that works for all parties as soon as possible, however they have advised that this may still be some months off, and unfortunately, is something we have no direct control over.

What Does This Mean for My Order?

“Stock” products – e.g. door canopies, window canopies, finials, garden arch kits

  • Under 2.4 meters – we should be able to estimate freight costs with reasonable accuracy. No surcharge will be applied, and where possible, we will continue to absorb costs where we can.
  • Over 2.4 meters – again, we should be able to estimate freight costs with reasonable accuracy. See the table below for the new ‘standard’ delivery and surcharge that will be applied to packages over 2.4 meters in length.

Large and custom products – e.g. bullnose verandah kits, Smart-Arch carports, trusses

As a consequence of our efforts to secure the best freight solution from multiple potential carriers, it is unlikely that we’ll be able to estimate with much accuracy at the time you place your order. See the table below for the new ‘standard’ delivery and surcharge that will be applied to orders over 2.4 meters in length, although we can’t rule out additional unexpected charges being applied. For any additional changes, we will discuss and confirm your agreement before your order proceeds into production.

When and How Will Freight Charges Be Applied?

Additional freight costs may be:

  • Added to your invoice when your order is confirmed
  • Sent via a separate invoice once your order is ready to ship, or
  • As otherwise discussed and agreed with you beforehand.

All freight costs are to be paid in full before we finalise the delivery..

How Will Delivery Updates be Communicated to Me?

To the best of our knowledge at the time, expected delivery details will be communicated to you when it leaves our despatch. We will provide you with a tracking number and the carrier’s contact information so that you can follow-up with them direct on your order’s progress and final delivery arrangements.

Please note – we have attempted to communicate with carriers on behalf of our customers in the past, but rather than providing them with better service, we found that it only increases the potential for misunderstanding and missed delivery opportunities, and that direct communication between the two parties was far more effective.

What are the New Standard Delivery and Surcharge Costs?
